3. Abitur - Boston - College: Northeastern Students warned to stay indoors Sunday or face arrest.

    alexgoestoboston:

Does anyone else think this is going a bit too far? I understand that they want us to be safe, but what gives them the right to arrest us if we, as adults, choose to stay outside at our own risk and celebrate the superbowl peacefully?

Northeastern has sent out emails reminding students to behave for at least every championship a Boston team has been in since I arrived in 06-07 and, I think, the 2010 election. This is by far the most ridiculous. Even the last Super Bowl wasn’t like this. If there had been any incidents whatsoever I would understand. But this is going too far. Nobody has caused significant, newsworthy trouble. The BPD, because Boston has been so awesome at sports lately, has gotten extremely good at controlling the population for this type of thing. After the 2007 World Series, I along with many others went to Fenway Park. People climbed poles and traffic lights and I’m sure some damage was caused, but riot police with shields and on horses came quickly and everyone calmly dispersed. Half an hour after I got back to my dorm I tried to go back out, down Hemenway, with a friend to take pictures, and we didn’t even get to Westland before being turned back. It wasn’t even crowded. After the Stanley Cup last year, I didn’t go to the TD Garden, but the only significant gathering I saw was maybe 50 people going into the reflecting pool by the Pru. There were a few cops nearby who just chuckled and commented to my friends and I about how foolish that was, given how disgusting the water was. They didn’t have to do anything because NOBODY WAS CAUSING TROUBLE. Nobody was rioting, everyone was happy and excited and just wanted to hug and high five each other. Boston isn’t Vancouver and although I’m an alumni and this doesn’t apply to me anymore, I’m pretty offended that Northeastern seems to think it is.

every site says this but when you look at the more detailed page it turns out what it means is, it’s going to snow tomorrow when we’re all asleep and switch to rain.
